Stampeding Through the 2025 USF Football Roster: #14 QB Marcelis Tate
THERE ARE ONLY TWO WEEKS UNTIL USF PLAYS FOOTBALL
PLAYER: Marcelis Tate
POSITION: Quarterback
YEAR: Redshirt freshman
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'2", 207 lbs.
HOW DID HE GET HERE? Tate has been locked in with the Bulls for a long time. Rated a mid three-star prospect out of Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, he committed to the Bulls and Jeff Scott (!) during the summer after his sophomore year of high school (!!). But he stuck with USF through the coaching change and ended up signing in December 2023. He enrolled early and practiced with the Bulls during their Boca Raton Bowl prep.
His other offers included UAB, Charlotte, and Coastal Carolina.
HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON? Tate was, presumably, the Bulls’ fourth-stringer at quarterback behind Byrum Brown, Bryce Archie, and Izzy Carter. He didn’t appear in any games and took a redshirt season.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025? Alex Golesh’s comments in his fall camp pressers suggest that the battle for the QB2 spot behind Byrum Brown is between Tennessee transfer Gaston Moore and incoming freshman Locklan Hewlett. That would put Tate back around the fourth string again, but he’s still a young player with plenty of time to make his mark.
