The South Florida Bulls Head to the Hawaii Bowl
HONOLULU, HI-The University of South Florida Bulls finished their season sixth in the American Athletic Conference going two years straight into a Bowl game. Until the coaching under Alex Golesh, the Bulls hadn’t seen a bowl game since 2017.
The Bulls will be playing San Jose State in the Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Spartans finished their regular season in fifth place in the Mountain West Conference.
“It’s a really good football team in all three phases” Head Coach Golesh said in the bowl game press conference last week when talking about going against San Jose State.
The Spartans will be without one of their best wide receivers, Nick Nash. Nash opted out of playing the Bowl game in preparation of the NFL Draft.
On another hand, USF will maybe finally be able to see their starting quarterback, Byron Brown.
Even after losing Brown due to injury in the game against Tulane, the Bulls managed to still pull through enough wins with second string, Bryce Archie, to secure a place to play football in December.
When asked about if fans will see Byrum Brown in the bowl game, Coach Golesh gave an insight of hope.
“He’s practiced, this is the healthiest he’s ever been since the Tulane game,”’
Golesh also mentioned some transfers and freshmen being able to practice and travel for the bowl game with the team as well. Nobody was named specifically.
“If you make the important things, the important things, which is football, you’ll have success.”
With going to Hawaii during Christmas, the process will remain the same, just in a different time zone, even in paradise.
“I want them to enjoy and reap the rewards of earning the right to go do it,” Coach Golesh said, “When we are doing [foot]ball, we’ll do[foot]ball.”
Winning the bowl game is the goal for the Bulls while they have all eyes on them being the only game on Christmas Eve on ESPN.
The Bulls will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. eastern standard time on Christmas Eve against the Spartans at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. The game can be watched on ESPN.
