USF Weekly Honors
A double dose of USF women’s soccer this week, as the regular season wrapped up before the weekend and the conference went ahead announced those honors:
For four straight weeks, a USF Bull was honored in the AAC weekly honors.
Madison Schwartzenberger was named AAC Defensive Player of the week in the previous cycle.
Additionally, Signe Markvardsen and Sadie Sider-Echenberg were named to the honor roll in the same week
Peyton Felton was named AAC Defensive Player of the week this past week.
Sadie Sider-Echenberg was named to the honor roll in back to back weeks.
Ajmeer Spengler was named to AAC honor roll for men’s soccer.
Buse Hazan was named to the weekly honor roll for women’s volleyball.
USF Women’s Soccer: AAC East Champions
Championship On Her Way Out: Denise Schilte-Brown capped off her final game as the head coach of USF with a resounding victory to clinch an AAC East title, a fitting end to her historical career leading the Bulls.
USF closed out the regular season with a 2-1 victory over FAU, Sadie Sider-Echenberg and Peyton Felton scored two goals in the second half to secure the victory for the Bulls. The relentless firepower we have seen all season continued for the Green and Gold, finishing the night with 20 shots and 10 on goal (FAU had four shots and only two on goal).
Look Ahead: With the victory, USF secured the number 2 seed in the AAC tournament starting Tuesday, Oct. 31, where they will face FAU once again at 7 p.m.
Score Summary:
FAU (W 2-1)
Sadie Sider-Echenberg, Peyton Felton
USF Men’s Soccer: Memphis Blues
Dropped Precious Points: USF traveled to Memphis for a pivotal match against the Tigers. However, an early goal put Memphis ahead 1-0 at the 20 minute mark. It took a while of relentless shots on target but the Bulls found the equalizer in the 2nd half at the 73rd minute mark, courtesy of Richard Thompson, his first goal of the season.
Memphis was able to secure the win on a game winner in the 81st minute, where Rodrigues dos Santos scored his second of the night. The loss puts USF at 2-4-1 in conference play this season, where all four losses come to the top four teams in the conference by a score of 2-1 each time.
The Bulls no longer control their own destiny now, they’ll need a win and a Temple loss in their regular season finale to keep their season alive.
Look Ahead: USF will host senior night on Wednesday November 1st at 7 p.m. against FAU. Elsewhere, USF fans should keep an eye on Temple’s match up against #4 SMU. A victory by Temple will secure their spot in the AAC conference tourney. A draw between those two will mean USF needs a victory.
Score Summary:
Memphis (L 1-2)
Richard Thompson
USF Volleyball: Double Swept
Rocked like a Hurricane: USF started their road trip by traveling over to Tulsa on Friday night. The Golden Hurricane were able to sweep the Bulls 0-3 despite a huge milestone by Marta Cvitkovic. She was able to secure her 1000th career kill during the third set to tie that set at four a piece.
Earlier in the match, Tulsa started off at a blistering pace, getting the first set done with an 11-25 win. The second set was much closer, at 21-25, with the score locked 20-21 late in the second before a quick 4-1 run gave Tulsa the second set victory.
In the 3rd, the Bulls battled but couldn’t muster any sort of momentum to counter the Golden Hurricane. Maria Clara Andrade (who also recorded a double-double) and Buse Hazan lead the Bulls with 14 kills. This is now 13 straight matches where Hazan reached double digit kills.
Saddled by SMU: The Bulls continued their road trip on Sunday afternoon traveling to Dallas to take on the Ponies. SMU took care of business to sweep the Bulls 0-3, exposing a weakness the Bulls have had all season.
SMU took the first set, edging out USF 19-25. The second set was a little less even at 17-25, but the third set was a beating with SMU winning 10-25. USF didn’t muster a block on the day, while the Ponies secured 10 on the day. The teams were even at Kills with 35 a piece, but the Bulls committed 23 errors as opposed to SMU’s 3.
Look Ahead: USF will continue their road trip with a Thursday late afternoon match at 4 p.m. and a Friday nooner against the Owls.
Score Summary:
Tulsa (L 0-3)
11-25, 21-25, 21-25
