### USF Weekly Honors

With the closure of USF soccer teams, honors were a plenty this week for USF athletics:

- Gentiana Fetaj, Vivianne Bessette, and Georgia Brown were announced to AAC All-Conference teams, with Fetaj ending up on first-team and Bessette and Brown finding themselves on second-team.
- Alan Horrocks was the AAC men’s soccer goalkeeper of the week in the previous week’s efforts against FAU.

  - Jalen Anderson was named AAC men’s soccer honor roll
- Melanie Green was once again named the AAC Golfer of the Month for October

### USF Women’s Soccer: Disappointing Conclusion

**Stunned by the Owls:** USF entered the AAC tournament a bubble team looking for a deep run and a hopeful run to continue their season and Coach Denise Schilte-Brown’s time as the head coach before departing for the newly named Tampa Bay Sun FC.

However, the Bulls were upset in the opening round against FAU to conclude their season. USF was relentless, as they had been all season, producing 17 shots and forcing FAU’s goalie into 6 saves for the match. The green and gold defense was stagnant as well, making shots difficult all night for the Owls who only had 3 shots on target. In the 63rd minute, one of those FAU shots found the back of the net to give them the lead in spurring the upset.

In Denises’ career at USF, she finished with a 184-97-43 record, with an NCAA tournament appearance unlikely for the Bulls.

VP of Athletics Michael Kelly will look to replace one of the longest tenured and most decorated coaches at the university, who will have big shoes to fill to get USF back to regular post-season play.

**Score Summary**:

- FAU (L 0-1)

  - N/A

### USF Men’s Soccer: Disappointing Conclusion Part 2

**Season Kept Alive**: USF men’s soccer welcomed FAU to Corbett stadium last week with their season on the line. A win secures them a spot in the AAC tournament, and a loss sends them back to the Lee Roy Selmon with a sour taste in their mouths.

Destiny was on the Bulls’ side, who defeated the Owls 2-0 to end the regular season on a high note. Ajmeer Spengler got the early lead for the green and gold in the 12th minute, and Jalen Anderson got the insurance second goal in the 82nd minute to give USF a 2-0 victory on senior night.

With the victory and some other results throughout the conference, USF was given the 5th seed and a matchup against the #4 seed Memphis on the road in the opening round of the AAC tournament, which…

**Second Half Collapse:** USF looked to be the team of destiny in the tournament early on in their opening round matchup against Memphis on Sunday evening. An early lead at 1-0 spurred by Shion Soga was quickly matched by Memphis 3 minutes later to tie the game.

The Bulls would take the lead going into halftime though thanks to Max Wilkins goal in the 38th minute. At 2-1, all felt right in the world again.

For much of the second half, Memphis battled but USF was able to keep their lead, but with five minutes left in the match, disaster struck.

A goal in the 85th minute, following by another in the 89th left the Bulls stunned and the Tigers on cloud nine. USF was defeated 3-2, dropping to 6-9-1 on the year and 3-4-1 in conference play this season. There will be some questions about coach Bob Butehorn’s future at the helm, as 2 winning seasons in 7 seasons will leave a poor taste in the mouths. Bob’s current contract goes through 2025, so it will be TBD if he can bring together a solid roster to get the Bulls back in post-season play.

**Score Summary**:

- FAU (W 2-0)

  - Ajmeer Spengler, Jalen Anderson
- Memphis (L 2-3)

  - Shion Soga, Max Wilkins

### USF Volleyball: Back on Top

**Double Victory in Philly**: USF volleyball concluded a four-match road trip by taking on AAC East foe Temple in back-to-back games Thursday and Friday of last week.

In game 1, The Bulls and Owls battled blow for blow in a five set thriller before a commanding fifth set gave USF the victory. Early in the match, it was all Temple, who jumped out to a first set victory 25-20\. The second set didn’t look much better, with Temple holding a 19-23 lead late looking to get a 2-0 lead on the Bulls. However USF battled in that second set to take it 29-27\. The Bulls used that momentum to take the 3rd set 25-18.

The Owls wouldn’t go away quietly and they took the 4th set 21-25, leading to that decisive 5th set. It didn’t end up being that close, the Bulls took the 5th set 15-5 to get a much needed victory under their belt. During the match, Maria Clara Andrade set a career high in kills with 24, followed by Marta Cvitkovic with 17 kills and Buse Hazan had 14 kills. Defensively, the Bulls (who have struggled this season with Blocks) gathered 5 solo blocks for game 1.

Game 2 was much quicker and much better for USF across the board, where they swept Temple 3-0 to tie ECU at the top of the east division of the AAC. USF jumped out to a first set victory 25-21 where they went wire to wire to win in a set they didn’t trail. The second set saw the Owls get to a 6-9 lead before USF regained an 11-10 advantage in an evenly contested set. The green and gold prevailed 25-22 in that second set and used that momentum to get to a 24-20 lead in the 3rd looking to close it out. A late 5-0 run allowed the Owls to nearly flip the script, but alas the Bulls prevailed to get back to back conference victories.

Buse Hazan (17) and Maria Clara Andrade (16) combined for 33 kills on the match to lead the Bulls offensively. Defensively, true freshman Miya Thomas has started to dominate and lead the team with 14 digs. USF also added 4 blocks and 6 aces on the match.

**Look Ahead:** USF will host an important two game series against ECU this week. Game 1 is Thursday and Game 2 is Friday with both teams tied atop the AAC east and only 5 games remaining this season.

**Score Summary**:

- Temple (W 3-2)

  - 20-25, 29-27, 25-18, 21-25, 15-5
- Temple (W 3-0

  - 25-21, 25-22, 26-24
