### USF Weekly Honors

Volleyball gets the lone conference honor this week, as the holidays and sports played have slowed, but a strong showing by Carla Brito nets her all-tournament Honors:

- Buse Hazan was named to the AAC Honor Roll for women’s volleyball.
- Carla Brito was named to all-tournament team at the Paradise Jam.

### USF Women’s Basketball: Nightmare in Paradise

USF women’s basketball competed in the Paradise Jam tournament over the Thanksgiving break, competing against High Point on Thursday, Arizona State on Friday, and #12 Texas on Saturday.

**The High Point**: USF started off the Paradise Jam by thumping High Point University 61-32\. A stout defensive effort combined with Emma Johannson going for a career-high 12 points as well as Evelien Lutje Schipholt collecting a season-high 11 points.

The Bulls held High Point to a 19% shooting percentage, while out-rebounding the Panthers 52-27 to maintain an edge for a wire-to-wire victory.

**The Low Point:** USF followed up their Thursday victory by taking on Arizona State on Black Friday. The Sun Devils pounced on the offensive woes that have plagued the Bulls to start the season by defeating USF 49-66.

Carla Brito lead the Bulls with 13 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Vittoria Blasigh who collected 11 points. Blasigh was the lone Bull who hit a three this game (making three of them), while the rest of the team went 0-16 from beyond the arc.

At halftime, the Bulls were trailing ASU by 3, however the third quarter was a tremendous thud for the Green and Gold as the Sun Devils outscored USF 24-6 in that third frame to put the game well out of reach.

**The Lowest Point:** After splitting their first two matches in the Paradise Jam, the Bulls were treated to a matchup against #12 Texas, who was looking for revenge after the Bulls slammed the Longhorns last year. Revenge is what they got, with Texas winning 44-76 on Saturday.

Texas jumped out to a 35-6 lead before the Bulls could put a stop to the Longhorns run of scoring in the first half. Vittoria Blasigh and Romi Levy both collected 10 points a piece, while Carla Brito scored 9 points for the Bulls. USF outscored Texas 24-12 in the 4th quarter to make the score a bit more respectable after being held to 7 points or less in the 1st three quarters.

**Tournament Honors:** For Carla Brito averaging 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in the Paradise Jam, she was named to the All-Tournament team.

**Look Ahead:** USF will look to lick their wounds at the Paradise Jam before taking on Charleston Southern at 11 am on Thursday November 30th.

### USF Men’s Basketball: Hot and Cold

**Iced Cold Against the Bears:** After a resounding victory over Northern Illinois, USF welcomed Maine on Wednesday to the Yuengling Center, where their inconsistent offensive output this season plagued them once again, losing 59-70.

Sporting new Tampa Bay gold uniforms and in front of some high-profile visitors, USF came out ice cold against Maine, outscored 6-0 to start the game before Brandon Stroud hit a jumper to score the first points for the Bulls. USF would be lead by Chris Youngblood, who scored 17 points, followed by Kasean Pryor off the bench collecting 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Outside of Youngblood, the Bulls couldn’t get much scoring out of the rest of their starters, as Knox (7), Stroud (5), Placer (0), and Tolibola (0) would net a mere 13 points for the Bulls. USF held a rebounding edge 40-35 and limited turnovers by only giving 11 while turning the Bears over 14 times. It was, of course, poor shooting that haunted the Bulls, going for 35% on the night and a paltry 10% from 3.

**Look Ahead:** The season marches on, with the Bulls starting a road trip traveling up to Hofstra on Thursday before traveling to UMass for a Saturday showdown.

### USF Volleyball: OUTRIGHT CHAMPS OF THE EAST

**Stuffed the Owls**: USF took on Rice for the regular season finale with the outright East crown on the line. In a five set thriller, the Bulls were victorious 3-2 to clinch the East division.

Buse Hazan would lead the Bulls with 17 Kills, most of them timely, especially in the first set where the Bulls won 25-18\. The second set is when the Owls adjusted accordingly and took it 12-25.

The third set turned into a battle going into extra frames with the set tied at 24, USF found their way to victory in the 3rd 28-26\. During that third set, Caroline Dykes notched her 1,000 assist on the season, on the match she collected 40.

The fourth set found the Owls victorious 18-25 to force the pivotal 5th set. An early lead by Rice put doubt in the mind of this writer, but a late 6-2 run by USF gave him hope, and a Buse Hazan ace sealed the match for the Bulls, giving them the crown they deserve winning the fifth set 15-13.

Elsewhere in the match, Maria Clara Andrade collected 15 kills, while Tizi Puljiz secured double-digit kills with 10\. Miya Thomas was stout defensively, acquiring 20 digs while Niki Khoshatefeh had 2 solo blocks and 4 block assists on the match.

**Looking Ahead:** USF secured post-season play for the first time in 2018, being an automatic qualifier from the AAC along with Wichita State in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). They’ll open the tournament this Friday taking on Buffalo in Queens at 1 p.m.
