The Tampa Bay Lightning are back on the ice for another matinee matchup against the New York Rangers. Fresh off a win against the Red Wings where they maybe didn’t play their best hockey, the Bolts need to be very careful to ensure that they don’t drop their momentum in this game.

This will be the second meeting of the regular season for the two teams. The Rangers took the Lightning to the woodshed earlier this season in Tampa with a 7-3 victory. Since that victory, the Rangers have gone 4-4-0 and are currently riding a three game winning streak.

The Rangers have had a weird season. They didn’t win their first home game until November 10th, they’re currently outside of a playoff spot, but their offense has been absolutely electric at times scoring 3+ goals in 14 games (including the game where they lit the Bolts up).

In net, the Bolts will (probably) face ~~Jonathan Quick. Quick’s record against the Bolts all time is 9-6-3 with a 2.38 GAA & .914 SV%. Those are pretty respectable numbers. He is 1-0 as a starter for the Rangers against the Lightning.~~ Dylan Garand from the AHL Hartford Wolfpack. In 11 games played, he has 2.96 GAA & .897 SV%. I don’t think he’s ever faced the Lightning before.

For the good guys, expect to see Jonas Johansson. Jojo is 1-2-0 against the Rangers with a 3.86 GAA & a .833 SV%—not great.

The good thing for the Lightning is that the Rangers are also playing back-to-back. Also, the game is at MSG where then Rangers are a bafflingly bad 2-7-1\. That said, this game feels like a scheduled loss for the Bolts. I don’t want to be a downer, especially with the cloud hanging over USF football, but it is VERY hard to string together seven consecutive wins when you’re playing two games in less than 24 hours.

Check in on the game score in between some of the Rivalry Week offerings and take the over. Go Bolts!
