Ten days, folks! Only ten days left until m~~y fingers get a rest from typing all these countdown entries~~ USF plays football!

**PLAYER:** Ira Singleton

**POSITION:** B-backer

**YEAR:** Sophomore

**HEIGHT/WEIGHT:** 6'5”, 240 lbs.

**HOW DID HE GET HERE?** Singleton hails from Lilburn, Georgia in the Atlanta metro area, and played both defensive end and linebacker for Parkview High School. He was rated as a mid-three-star prospect and earned a smattering of mid-major offers, plus one from Indiana. He committed to Miami (OH) in June 2023 before his senior season, but ended up making a late flip to USF just about a week before early signing day.

**HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON?** Very promising. Singleton’s skillset made him a natural fit for USF’s hybrid B-backer position, and he was generally used there throughout the season as a pass rushing specialist. He appeared in all 13 games, with his playing time steadily creeping upwards over the course of the season. By the end of the year he had tallied 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks; the most important of those sacks came in the fourth quarter against UAB on a key third down that set up USF’s game-winning drive.

**WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025?** As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m looking for a bit more production from USF’s B-backer position this season. Singleton’s 2.5 sacks were actually tied for the team lead among Bulls defensive linemen in 2024, and while that’s very impressive for him, it doesn’t exactly speak well of the rest of the line’s ability to get to the quarterback. That said, it makes me very excited to see year two of Singleton. He looked excellent in the spring game, and I think he’ll play quite a bit at B-backer this fall. A breakout season could be in the cards.
