Stampeding Through the 2025 USF Football Roster: #0 WR Brandon Winton
WE DID IT
At long last, we’ve reached the last entry in our 2025 Stampeding Through the Roster series. In the past 100 days, I have written and you have read* 108 countdown entries and unit previews.
*generous assumption
Seriously, though: if you’ve read even one of these, it means a ton. This has been an exhausting experience, but I wouldn’t be doing it if I wasn’t having a total blast. It has been a pleasure dropping into your inbox every day this summer to talk some USF football. The offseason is a cold, dark place, and I hope this series helped make it a little bit brighter.
I will now be taking the opportunity to sleep for the first time since May… at least until 5:30 Eastern time this evening, when I will see you all in the hallowed halls of the Bay Area Examiner Discord game threads.
Go Bulls, in my opinion.
PLAYER: Brandon Winton
POSITION: Wide receiver
YEAR: Redshirt freshman
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'2", 194 lbs.
HOW DID HE GET HERE? Winton hails from Vols territory. He started his high school career at Webb School of Knoxville before transferring to IMG as a junior, then back to the Knoxville area for his senior season at Alcoa High.
Did I mention he was a very impressive prospect? Recruiting services had him as a high three-star, thanks in part to catches like this:
Winton’s offer list was very impressive, including the likes of Tennessee, Penn State, and Texas A&M. He somewhat surprisingly committed to USF in March of 2024 before his senior season, and the Bulls were able to keep him locked in until early signing day. He’s still one of the biggest prospects that Alex Golesh and company have signed in their time in Tampa.
HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON? Winton appeared in four regular season games and the Hawaii Bowl, taking his redshirt season. He did make three catches on the year, all against Navy, for 14 yards.
Of note: Winton played almost all of his snaps in 2024 from the slot, so it’s possible that’s where the Bulls want to use him moving forward.
SPOT ON WEEK ONE DEPTH CHART: Not listed.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025? I’m still excited about Winton, despite his omission from the initial depth chart. He had a fantastic spring game, catching a pair of touchdowns, and looked throughout the offseason like he was fully in the receiver rotation. The Bulls’ sheer amount of options at receiver might keep him from a breakout season, but I bet we’ll be seeing Winton’s first significant playing time sooner rather than later.
