Stampeding Through the 2025 USF Football Roster: #10 RB Alvon Isaac
Isaac has a unique skillset and a chance for increased playing time in 2025.
PLAYER: Alvon Isaac
POSITION: Running back
YEAR: Redshirt freshman
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’9”, 185 lbs.
HOW DID HE GET HERE? A speedy, dynamic player, Isaac all over the field for Hawthorne High School outside of Gainesville and did well enough to earn a mid three-star rating and offers from likes of Pitt, Georgia Tech, and Louisville. He committed to the Bulls in the summer of 2023, and signed and enrolled in the winter.
Isaac’s high school highlight tape was a treat. He played both running back and receiver on offense and even played some on the defensive side of the ball in the secondary. He spent most of his senior season exclusively at receiver, but ever since he enrolled at USF, he’s been listed as a running back only.
HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON? He saw limited snaps in four games as a true freshman, preserving his redshirt. Almost all of the running back snaps of significance in 2024 were taken by Kelley Joiner, Nay’Quan Wright, and Ta’Ron Keith, but it should be noted that Isaac was the first running back outside of that trio to see late-game snaps in blowouts against Charlotte and Tulsa. Read into that what you will!
Isaac ended up carrying the ball six times for 50 yards on the season, and scored his first college touchdown late in the Charlotte game.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025? Joiner, Wright, and Keith are all gone, so there are snaps to be earned at running back. Incoming transfers Cartevious Norton and Sam Franklin are presumably going to be the first men up, but there’s definitely an opportunity for one of the younger members of the rotation to see playing time as well. If I had to pick a favorite of that bunch, I’d pick Isaac. His playing time in 2024, plus some impressive showings in the spring, suggest to me that he is an unofficial number three on the running back depth chart right now. His receiving chops could complement the bruising Norton and Franklin well. Here, in his own words:
“Coach Golesh has been telling me like, ‘just keep going, just keep going, your time will come.’ So I feel like I did all that for a year, and watched the great running backs that were in front of me last year, and learned from them. And now it’s my turn, so I’m ready.”
