When Mac Harris was honored on senior night last season, many Bulls fans figured he wouldn’t be back in 2025\. However…

**PLAYER:** Mac Harris

**POSITION:** Linebacker

**YEAR:** Redshirt senior

**HEIGHT/WEIGHT:** 6'0”, 230 lbs.

**HOW DID HE GET HERE?** We have to go all the way back to 2019, if you can believe it. Back then, Harris was a low three-star *safety* out of Villages Charter School. He picked the Bulls over the likes of Rutgers, Colorado State, and Appalachian State. Bulls fans who suffered through the entirety of the Jeff Scott era will remember that Harris made an immediate impact as a true freshman at linebacker in 2020, racking up 24 tackles, one TFL and a sack as one of the few bright spots of a truly dreadful season. Unfortunately, injuries slowed him down in 2021 (a medical redshirt season) and 2022, but he worked himself back into the starting lineup in 2023 in DJ Gordon’s absence and had a very promising stretch of games playing alongside Jhalyn Shuler.

**HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON?** Finally locked in as a no-doubt starter, Harris had a career year in 2024\. He was an ironman for the Bulls, starting all 13 games and leading the team in defensive snaps, tackles (82), TFLs (12), and sacks (4). You couldn’t watch a USF game without noticing Harris swarming to the ball; his energy and motor jumped off the tape.

Some highlights from his excellent season:

- He played like his hair was on fire against Bama, finishing with 7 tackles, two TFLs, a sack and a forced fumble. Flip to 6:49 below if you want to watch the Mac Harris show. On consecutive possessions, with the Bulls down 14-6 in the third quarter, Harris came flying into the backfield on 3rd and 6 and sacked ~~Inexplicable Third Round Draft Pick~~ Jalen Milroe for a loss of nearly 20 yards, then followed that up by punching the ball out of Bama RB Jam Miller’s hands and forcing a key fumble in Crimson Tide territory that the Bulls recovered. Just a fantastic game from him.
- Against Charlotte, he had five tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, *and* he helped ice the game by returning this fumble 25 yards for a score (click on the picture for the video).

- Then, for one last highlight: he put up 8 tackles and two TFLs in the Hawaii Bowl, and broke up the SJSU pass in overtime number five to win the game for the Bulls (click on the picture for video).

He was named to all-AAC teams by a couple different publications. To top it off, the Chaotic Eligibility Goblin somewhat unexpectedly blessed us with an extra year of Mac Harris, which he’s chosen to spend in Tampa.

“Where I start is where I finish.”

**WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025?** Mac Harris is, to no one’s surprise, a written-in-ink starter at linebacker and one of the leaders of this team. Pretty much any path to a successful 2025 for USF involves Harris having another great season. Hopefully he can get the ending to his Bulls career that he deserves.
