**PLAYER:** Traevon Mitchell

**POSITION:** Defensive tackle

**YEAR:** Senior

**HEIGHT/WEIGHT:** 6'0", 282 lbs.

**HOW DID HE GET HERE?** Mitchell started out at Wise High School outside of DC, then enrolled at Division II Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. He had two good seasons at Chowan, racking up 84 tackles, 25 TFLs, and three sacks in 21 games there. He made his way to the Sunshine State after the season, transferring to fellow DII school West Florida, and had his best season yet in 2024\. After putting together an impressive resume, he entered the portal again in the spring and earned a number of FBS offers, including a P4 offer from West Virginia. He scheduled visits with Memphis, Appalachian State and USF, and chose the Bulls in April.

**HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON?** It was an excellent year for Mitchell. He made 46 tackles and 17.5 TFLs, plus seven sacks. For his efforts, he was named to an all-region team and named a co-defensive player of the year in the Gulf South Conference.

**WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025?** Don’t be fooled by the level of competition. USF has had recent success with the DII pipeline - you only need to look back a couple years to defensive end Jonathan Ross, who was a DII All-American at Bowie State before transferring to USF and eventually becoming a solid starter (47/7/2 in 2023). Mitchell didn’t quite put up Ross-type numbers at UWF, but his accolades and impressive offer sheet indicate that he has the skills to be a contributor at the FBS level. I have Mitchell pegged as a rotational piece at defensive tackle - not a starter, but certainly a player who could see regular snaps in relief of players like Josh Celiscar and Dinnellson Exume.
