**PLAYER:** Jonas Duclona

**POSITION:** Cornerback

**YEAR:** Redshirt sophomore

**HEIGHT/WEIGHT:** 5’11”, 190 lbs.

**HOW DID HE GET HERE?** Even before the transfer portal era, USF has always been a popular landing spot for power conference players originally from Florida who are looking to transfer down for more playing time. Duclona will be attempting to follow in this great legacy. He was a high three-star prospect out of Naples High School who originally committed to Cincinnati, but followed Luke Fickell to Wisconsin in December of 2022\. His offer list was quite impressive - it also featured the likes of Florida, Ole Miss, and Arkansas.

[He impressed the Badgers staff in his true freshman season](https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/uw/2023/10/18/freshman-db-jonas-duclona-working-up-ranks-of-wisconsin-football/71213224007/?utm%5Fcampaign=snd-autopilot&ref=bayareaexaminer.com), making his way onto the two deep and playing meaningful snaps in a few games. He appeared in 12 games (three at corner, the remainder on special teams) and made three tackles on the season.

His 2024 season saw him slip down the depth chart a bit, so he entered the transfer portal in early December and committed to USF a couple weeks later.

**HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON?** As mentioned above, Duclona’s playing time took a hit in 2024\. He appeared in four games, all on special teams, and made two tackles. Of note: he preserved his redshirt season, so he’ll have three years of eligibility at USF.

**SPOT ON WEEK ONE DEPTH CHART:** Folks, [we have a depth chart now! ](https://x.com/USFFootball/status/1960003385991573792?t=bvi6Ae-QhJ1v0yk6-FjeZw&s=19&ref=bayareaexaminer.com)I’d caution against reading too closely into these, but they do help us a bit with our projections. Duclona is listed along with De’Shawn Rucker (with the infamous “OR”) at one of the starting cornerback spots.

**WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025?** The more I read about Duclona, the more excited I get. The modest numbers - 16 games and five tackles in two seasons - disguise the fact that he was impressive enough to make it onto the two-deep at a Big Ten school as a true freshman. This wasn’t the case of a player who was absolutely buried on the depth chart.

There’s a lot of competition in the Bulls’ secondary. USF generally rotated between about six players at corner last season (factoring in both outside and slot corners here), and five of them return. In addition to Duclona, the Bulls brought in Georgia State transfer Izaiah Guy, who started seven games for the Panthers in 2024\. But Duclona’s history at Wisconsin - and especially his impressive spot on the week one depth chart - indicates he’ll be very much involved from the jump this season.
