Stampeding Through the 2025 USF Football Roster: #47 TE Evan Dangler
Every great offense needs a great blocking tight end.
PLAYER: Evan Dangler
POSITION: Tight end
YEAR: Redshirt junior
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'3", 250 lbs.
HOW DID HE GET HERE? Dangler hails from Bradenton and played primarily linebacker at Braden River High, though he moonlighted at tight end as well. He didn’t get much in the way of attention from the recruiting services, and ended up walking on to USF for the 2022 season, where he began at linebacker. He didn’t see any action in 2022, but appeared in a couple games in 2023, including a brief appearance on defense during the Boca Raton Bowl shellacking of Syracuse.
HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON? Speaking relatively here, I’m not sure anyone on the USF roster had a better one. It seems like there’s one out-of-nowhere storyline every offseason, and last year’s was The Rise of the Dangler. Evan switched to tight end full-time and made waves immediately, with the coaches praising his efforts and hinting at serious playing time. The BAE team was so sold on Dangler that they predicted he’d play more snaps in 2024 than four-star freshman Jonathan Echols… a prediction that turned out to be extremely true! Dangler was listed as the third-string tight end behind Peyton Singletary and Gunnar Greenwald, but he received the second-most snaps of the bunch, behind only Singletary. He was primarily used as a blocker, both in-line and sometimes in the backfield in a fullback-type role. He also played regularly on special teams.
Dangler ended up appearing in all 13 games, starting two. He didn’t see much receiving work, with just one target and no catches.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025? We’ve been over this before, but even with Singletary and Greenwald moving on, USF’s tight end room is stacked. The Bulls brought in FAU transfer Wyatt Sullivan, who started ten games for the Owls last season, and may get 2023 starter Weston Wolff back. That’s not accounting for a potential second-year leap from Echols, either. I wouldn’t expect many routes to be drawn up for Dangler this fall, but he seems to have carved out a niche for himself on offense as a blocker, and will certainly continue to be a key contributor on special teams.
