    PLAYER: Boogsie Silvera

    POSITION: Safety

    YEAR: Redshirt senior

    HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’11”, 191 lbs.

HOW DID HE GET HERE? A low three-star prospect out of American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Silvera put together a solid offer list including FBS schools like FAU, UAB, and Colorado State, but opted to attend FCS Charleston Southern in advance of the 2021 season. He made an instant impact, appearing in 10 games and starting three. The next season he started all four of the Buccaneers’ first four games, but entered the transfer portal and ended up committing to McNeese State. He shined at McNeese, starting every game he appeared in for two seasons. He entered the portal again after the season was over, and chose the Bulls over reported FBS offers from San Diego State, Georgia Southern, Texas State, and Kent State.

HOW WAS HIS 2024 SEASON? The best of his college career to date. He appeared in 11 games and started all of them, tallying 85 tackles, 2 TFLs, half a sack, and two interceptions. His tackle and interception counts both led the team, and he finished third on the defense in total snaps.

You can see Silvera’s highlights from McNeese below. He’s comfortable playing in the box and, as you can see, has a knack of delivering big hits from the secondary. That first diving interception ended up as a SportsCenter Top Ten play, by the way.

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN 2025? I’m excited about Silvera. His skillset fits well with the Bulls’ strong safety position, which requires a sure tackler and capable blitzer who can play in the box. With Tawfiq Byard transferring to Colorado, that position is up for grabs this offseason. Silvera is one of a few favorites for the starting job, along with veteran Jaelen Stokes and promising sophomore Fred Gaskin. One way or another, he should be playing a lot of snaps for the Bulls in 2025.
