Re-Introducing Stampeding Through the Roster, 2025 Edition

As I’ve been tracking the USF football roster this offseason - a thing that I do for fun because I am a normal and well-adjusted person - I’ve realized that this roster is unlike any other I’ve seen at USF before. That’s not because of anything weird or different that the Bulls are doing; it’s just that college football is so different these days with recruiting becoming so transfer-heavy. USF is set to welcome in well over 20 transfers to this year’s team, which is a number very much in line with the national standard. As I’ve been researching all these new players and their histories (again, extremely normal! All normal people do this!), I found myself wishing there was a way for USF fans to access all this background information about the 2025 roster in one place.

Then I remembered: I (occasionally) write for a USF website! For those of you who have been around since the Voodoo Five/Daily Stampede days, you might be familiar with an old preseason series that we used to do called “Stampeding Through the Roster.” Each summer, we’d count down the days to USF’s upcoming football season by profiling each player on the roster based on their jersey number. For example: when there were 99 days until the season started, we’d profile the player wearing #99, and so on until we got to kickoff. This was a tradition that started all the way back in 2011 with the founding crew and continued for years under different staffs until we left SB Nation, with some years off here and there.

So what better way to introduce ourselves to USF’s 2025 roster - newbies and returnees alike - than bringing back the Stampeding Through the Roster series for 2025? This summer, we’ll be counting down each notable player on their corresponding day with a short profile including their background information, how they got to USF, how their 2024 season went, and their projected role on USF’s 2025 team.

Today, we’ve hit day 100. There are officially only 100 days until USF football kicks off its 2025 season on Thursday, August 28 against College Football Playoff participant Boise State. This is shaping up to be a very interesting fall for the Bulls: between another brutal non-conference schedule, the return of star quarterback Byrum Brown, and another top-tier (at the G5 level) recruiting class, you can talk yourself into Alex Golesh’s third season going in any number of directions. So let’s start getting excited about it by learning about the players who will be determining the Bulls’ fate.

We won’t be profiling every single player on the roster in this countdown - not because I don’t like every single player equally, but simply because I am just one person and I am very tired and old and my hands start cramping when they type too much. We’ll be profiling all scholarship players and any walk-ons who seem likely to play a major role this season. For the fall enrollees who don’t have numbers assigned yet - a few transfers and incoming freshmen - we’ll cover them in one post once their numbers are announced closer to the season. Once we finish all players in a particular position group, I’ll add a few thoughts about how that group stacks up as we approach the season.
