### USF cruises to win at Tulane

In nonconference play, USF had a 2-5 record away from the Yuengling Center. Since the new year hit, it has been a different story for the Bulls.

The South Florida Bulls rolled to a 97-83 win Wednesday night against Tulane.

USF improved to 4-0 on the road in American Conference play. It was the Bulls’ third win in a row, tying a season-high winning streak.

The Bulls’ offense was firing on all cylinders in the first half Wednesday. USF shot 58% from the floor on its way to 52 points in the opening frame. The Bulls scored 108 points combined in their second half against FAU and first half against Tulane.

Senior guard Wes Enis led the Bulls with 25 points and scored 17 of them in the first half. Senior guard Joseph Pinion added 17 points.

USF punished the Green Wave inside. The Bulls scored 42 points in the paint. They also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and turned those into 27 second-chance points.

The loss was Tulane’s fifth in a row. After starting 3-0 in league play and 12-4 overall, the Green Wave are scuffling.

Sophomore forward Tyler Ringgold led Tulane with 14 points. Junior guard Rowan Brumbaugh added 12 points. Brumbaugh entered the game as the American’s second-leading scorer and had 35 points in Tulane’s loss to Charlotte last Friday. He shot 4-for-14 from the floor and 1-for-7 from 3-point range. Brumbaugh is shooting 43.6% from the floor this season.

USF senior forward Izaiyah Nelson recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Nelson has a double-double in eight of his last ten games.

The Bulls headed north to continue their road trip at Temple on Saturday.

### The Bulls lose another heartbreaker late against Temple

In USF’s first two losses in conference play, the Bulls dropped close games due to crucial mistakes late. And guess what? They did it again.

South Florida fell to the Temple Owls 79-78 on Saturday night.

The loss dropped the Bulls to 6-3 in conference play and 14-8 overall. USF’s three losses to American foes have come by a combined five points. The Bulls held leads in the final two minutes of each game.

Saturday, the Bulls held a 78-77 lead after C.J. Brown found Izaiyah Nelson for an alley-oop dunk with 22 seconds left. On the other end, USF forced a miss by senior guard Derrian Ford, but senior center Mohamed Keita swooped in and tipped in the miss to give the Owls a one-point lead.

With six seconds left and a chance to win the game, Bryan Hodgson drew up a play for Pinion. Brown brought the ball quickly up the court and found Pinion open in the corner. The only problem was Pinion’s foot was on the sideline, and the turnover sunk the Bulls’ ship on Gasparilla Saturday.

Temple’s go-ahead basket coming on an offensive rebound was a fitting end to the game. The Owls had 13 offensive rebounds and 20 second-chance points. Temple outrebounded the Bulls, marking just the sixth time USF has been outrebounded this season. The Bulls are 1-5 in those games.

USF chased the Owls for most of the night. Temple held the lead for more than 28 minutes and built an advantage as large as 12 points.

Nelson led the Bulls with 18 points and eight rebounds. He is the only player in the American averaging a double-double this season and one of just 14 players in Division I doing so.

Enis added 17 points. He has scored in double figures in seven of his last nine games and leads the American by making 3.6 3-pointers per game. Pinion added 16 points.

Temple sophomore guard Aiden Tobiason scored a game-high 22 points, including 14 in the second half. Ford added 18 points. The Owls’ bench scored 24 points compared to 11 from USF’s bench.

The Bulls are ranked 62nd in the NET and 67th in KenPom. They are tied with Temple for second place in the conference. Tulsa and Charlotte currently share the top spot in the American at 7-2.

### Looking ahead to this week for the Bulls

USF will return home for a two-game homestand this week.

Wednesday, the Bulls will take on the lowly UTSA Roadrunners.

UTSA remains winless in conference play. The Roadrunners have lost by double digits in eight of their nine conference losses. They rank last in the conference in scoring offense and scoring defense.

Then Sunday comes the matchup the entire country has been waiting for. USF will host Tulsa at the Yuengling Center.

The Golden Hurricane have won six games in a row since their loss to the Bulls on Jan. 10\. USF rode a season-high 16 made 3-pointers in that win.

Tulsa leads the American by shooting 49.5% from the floor and 39.6% from beyond the arc. The Golden Hurricane’s offensive rating ranks 20th in the country.

On Jan. 10, the Bulls held Tulsa to 77 points on 42% shooting from the field and 30% from 3-point range.

Enis had 32 points and made ten 3-pointers. Nelson added 22 points and 14 rebounds.

It will be a critical week at the Yuengling Center for the Bulls.
