Alex Golesh has agreed to become the 29th head coach of the Auburn Tigers.

Golesh departs USF with a 23-15 record in three seasons as head coach of the Bulls. Defensive line coach Kevin Patrick will serve as interim head coach for the Bulls’ bowl game.

Former athletic director Michael Kelly hired Golesh after a 1-11 season in 2022. Jeff Scott won just four games in three years before Golesh took over.

Golesh has guided USF to a bowl game in each of his three seasons. He is the first coach in program history to qualify for a bowl in his first three years at the helm.

His 23 wins are the third most in program history. His victories over Boise State and Florida earlier this season marked the first time USF defeated ranked teams in back-to-back weeks. The Bulls also spent four weeks ranked in the AP Top 25 this season after going seven years without being ranked.

Now all eyes turn to new CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins, who will be tasked with hiring the seventh head coach in program history — a pivotal decision in his first year leading the department.
